Graduate students
WTS, the Campus Writing Program, and the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning support graduate students as they make progress towards their degrees and as they provide valuable labor to the University as teachers, researchers, and collaborators.
WTS tutors are trained to help writers of any skill level, from any discipline, in one-on-one tutoring sessions. In addition to one-on-one tutoring, WTS offers dissertation writing groups for PhD candidates, journal article writing groups, workshops for graduate students, and a weekly write-in.
We regularly hire graduate students during the fall and spring semesters to serve as graduate tutors. Please visit our graduate employment page for more information.
Scholarly Write-in
The Scholarly Write-in meets every Friday from 9am-12pm in the Grad Commons (8th Floor of Wells East Tower), and synchronously online via a unique Zoom link.
The write-in is open to all graduate students (at any stage of their degree program), postdocs, staff, and non-tenure-track faculty and instructors at IU Bloomington!
Coffee will be provided as a morning treat for in-person participants.
We will check in at the beginning of our meeting, set some goals together, then work independently for a few hours. At 11:45am, we will reconvene to update each other on our progress and set broad goals for the coming week.
This is a casual meeting – feel free to come for as much or as little time as you like, and only during the weeks that work for you. You are welcome and encouraged to work on anything that you need time and space for: participants regularly work on dissertations, course papers, syllabi and lesson plans, articles and pieces for publication, and grading. Our goal is to create a space where we can work together in solidarity on whatever projects we need to each week.
If this program sounds interesting to you, please fill out this Google Form to be added to our list and be sent the Zoom link:

This event is co-hosted by the IU Libraries Scholars’ Commons and Writing Tutorial Services.
Early Career Graduate Student Writing Workshop
Please join us on Wednesday afternoons from 5pm-7pm for a graduate student writing workshop, hosted by IU’s Writing Tutorial Services. This drop-in space is open to ALL graduate students at IU Bloomington, but especially those in the early stages of their degree. We will discuss helpful writing strategies, explore available campus resources, and foster an interdisciplinary community of writers who can support each other for years to come. Occasionally, we will invite staff from various campus offices to come speak with us about how graduate students might utilize important resources.
Our writing group will be held via Zoom [https://iu.zoom.us/j/87335235467 ] and will begin at 5pm, when we will discuss our weekly resources/strategies and set our writing goals for the day. We will work in solidarity until 6:45pm, when we will check-in again before ending the session at 7pm. This is a casual meeting; we want to give graduate students time and space to work in solidarity with other graduate students. It does not require a semester-long commitment. You are welcome to attend some weeks and not others – whatever works best for you and your schedule!
For Fall 2024, we will have our first session on Wednesday, September 11th, continuing throughout the semester.
